Short Mount Telephoto Nikkors for Nikon Rangefinder Cameras
Nikon made a series of lenses from 2.1cm to 13.5cm which fitted directly on to the 'S' bayonet mount of their Rangefinder cameras.
Beyond this they made a set of lenses that fitted via the Nikon Reflex Housing. The mount was essentially the same but these lenses would not produce an image if fitted directly to the rangefinder bodies.
When the Nikon F reflex camera was introduced in 1959 Nikon produced an adapter, the 'N-F' which enabled these lenses to be used on the new F mount.
Since physically the Contax rangefinder mount was the same, these lenses could fit the Contaxes via the Panflex housing although, since the Panflex was shorter, close focusing was lost.
Some of these Nikkors were also made with Zenza Bronica and Leica mounts.
