Cat and mouse
I recently posted a new boxcar that shows the trend of railroads and manufacturers moving info higher on the car to avoid being obscured by graffiti. Not only are the railroads adapting to the "artists" but the taggers (some of them) make concessions to needs of the railroads. To avoid having a block of paint placed on top of the tag so the car info can be replaced, the markings on this car have been carefully masked. Ahead of spraying, the info has all been shielded with blue painters tape (it's still in place around the Plate F box). I don't approve of it, but I do find it interesting the steps both sides are taking to keep cars functional in an era where railroads aren't interested in spending the money to either keep trespassers from defacing equipment nor spending money to remove the rogue paint.
