Not an Alma

Most of the time when a coal train is found on the St. Croix Sub it's headed either to or from the power plant at Alma. However, when the loads are moving west you know that's not the case. There were times when traffic and trackwork on the Marshall Sub resulted in Detroit Edison loads bound for Superior being routed across southern Iowa to Illinois then north along the river. The long way around to be sure but these coalies looked good curving along Lake Pepin. September 11, 1999.
