YEAH, I'M SHOUTING.
Well, the city went ahead and did it. Declared war to the death on resident Canada Geese. Held a 'round-up'. About 400 goslings were caught, banded and trucked away...supposedly to be let loose. Next year the goose population will be checked to see if the banded geese returned here.
161 adult geese were captured and taken to be slaughtered.
The capital crime which causes this goose-icide...too many droppings. Not injuries, not physical or property damage, but dropping poop on the bike paths and in city parks.
Further, if the goslings do return as adults, that relocation attempt will be abandoned, and goslings will also be killed. Given that it is far too long into their development this year -- they are adolescents and not new hatchlings -- the area WILL have already imprinted, and they will fly back.
Bad enough that the city grows continuously outward, always displacing wildlife. Far worse, and clearly immoral to me, when the wildlife make attempts to adapt to urban sprawl, and manage to survive, the city easily chooses to kill them...problem solved.
Of course it is not solved. They didn't get nearly all of the geese or goslings,. There is open water here during the winter, so more geese will show up.
So it will continue. Kill the geese. Kill 'em. KILL 'EM!!!
