Desktop panorama

A quick test to see what a tilt & shift lens can do for panoramas. This image is build using 9 (3x3) images. Each column was created using 3 vertical images. the bottom and top images where created using maximum shift. I used this setup

 

And then the fun started. Both CS5 and Hugin went berserk. In the end I had to stitch each column seperately and then stitch the columns together.

 

Am I the first person to create a panorama this way or is there a better way to do this?
