Hackberry Emperor (Asterocampa celtis)

This guy landed on me twice then landed on these rocks. A short time later a Question Mark landed a couple of feet away, walked over, and bumped the Emperor from his spot! I wondered why they both wanted to be on the same rocks, glaring in the bright sun, then realized they were poop. In my experience Emperors (we have 2 species) are the butterflies most likely to land on people followed by Red admirals. And they don't come to flowers so photo ops are scarce.

Happy Butterfly Monday !!
