UNDERGROUND 150 | Sir Peter Hendy MBE and Chief Operating Officer Howard Collins present a Metropolitan Railway timetable from November 1863 to Farringdon Station

A really lovely and fitting gift for the station, after we were coming down from the euphoria of having met Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall this morning.

Mike Ashworth was able to source a copy of a timetable for the station from November 1863, the year the London Underground was born. It was presented to Farringdon Station by Mr Hendy and Mr Collins, and Hendy spoke at great length about what services were available at the time with such enthusiasm that entertained and amazed us all. He muses at how there were trains to Hitchin and Windsor even then, like an earlier version of Crossrail.
