Looking out towards various sets of points at Cockfosters. Station starter signals for respective platforms to the left, with shunt signals to depot. Lights from Cockfosters Depot can been seen in the distance, centre-right. I always like it when the rails are painted in light and everything else is in darkness – sort of feels like it's guiding me along.

As you can sort of see, driving conditions are hazy. It has been drizzling the last few days. Along with it being leaf fall season, it's a nightmare to drive in and causes the wheels of the train to spin when braking or accelerating (yes – even in FWD II if you've got a bright motor on one unit), making the the 73 stock a nightmare to drive. Believe it or not, the trains are a lot easier to drive when it's lashing it down with rain because the water has enough weight to just run and roll off the rails then. The beauty of being able to drive manually is being able to adjust your driving style to provide a smoother ride, something an automatic train just can't do (as it only ever takes into account the speed, weight, momentum of the train and, "Can I stop in time?" not, "Can I stop in time and not put people through the next carriage?")
