Save our Heritage
I am glad that some of London Underground's efforts to protect its heritage have been fruitful and I am glad that there have been some decent refurbishments that have been completed to a high standard to compliment both old and new. However, there is still far too many of London Underground's heritage signage and stations that are being spoilt and tarnished through corporate vandalism. Yes – customers deserve refurbishments of some stations and of course we are having to be submissive to those with disabilities, but where there are to be reproductions of original heritage elements like signage they should be reproduced to the best possible quality and to the same design of the original.
Our heritage stations deserve at least that and it is in the company's best interests that it continues to protect and maintain this. After all, London Underground does have a rich heritage to be proud of and that is why so many people are charmed by its heritage design features. Just because you slap a bit of New Johnston type onto a new roundel reproduction doesn't make it anything like the original, and quite frankly it's insulting to Johnston and to a station's original designer that some of today's people think that.
