Timex Kona Ironman Podium Winners Watch

Back in 2010 I got into doing triathlon pretty obsessively (actually, that is the only way to do triathlon 😉) and my Uncle (now 94 and he only quit doing tri at 90) and my cousin (6 years older than me) were doing some of the very first Kona Ironmans back in the 80's. I know that because I did my first "sprint" tri on Oahu in 1984 when I was finishing up my enlistment in the Navy. I think that was the first year my cousin did Kona and then the both of them I think successfully did over 15 Konas each. Back then, not sure now, if you got a podium finish in your age group, they gave you this Timex Ironman Commemorative watch. You can see the imprint above the watch face that shows 2006. Anyway, as I was progressing with my races, my Uncle gave me his podium watch and it really meant alot and inspired me many times sitting on my desk wondering if I really needed to go out and train again and again AND again. This would be probably considered too diminutive by all the pros and high rollers that actually get to do the Kona race these days but it is a great memento for me and now that I am a newb watcher, I have some basic tools and I was able to replace the 2016 battery. Of course I had to drop one of those microscopic screws in the carpet. Even tho I would never wear this, it would be disrespectful if I did not have the watch all squared away. We all good now.
