Big horns

This is a mature ram, though not the biggest (in terms of the curls on his horns) in the herd. Note the tips of the horns look worn, which is typical. Some people think the sheep do that on purpose, as the horns grow past their eyes and interfere with their field of view. I'm not sure it's not just ordinary wear and tear, especially related to the head-butting that goes on in rut (mating season).

 

Poor guy is covered with burrs, though he didn't seem bothered by them, or anythiing else for that matter.

 

DIrect sun makes these guys look brown; in the shadow of the canyon a few hundred yards away, they look gray.
