Eat salmon: It's what bears do
This is the large Alaska coastal brown bear (grizzly) nicknamed "Crimp Ear" for her damaged left ear. Clearly whatever senses she needs to catch a salmon are fully intact, as she caught and gleefully consumed the only salmon - a silver, aka, coho salmon - we saw on this part of our trip. The salmon run from Silver Salmon Creek failed this year, leaving the bears with little opportunity to bulk up on this great source of fat and protein for the coming lean winter months.
