Maintaining the rails

I'm not sure what each of these contraptions was for, but they were at the forefront of a series of specialized equipment for fixing or maintaining the tracks. We have quite a few non-passenger trains coming through Montana's Gallatin Valley daily. In addition to typical freight there are also massive tons of coal moving from regional mines to Pacific coast ports for shipment to China and other customers around the world.
