My Baby ...
I don't often get emotional about birthdays but this one, 5 years old, was a little different. For the first time in a long time, there is no baby in my house and I admit, I may have had a few teary eyed moments that day.
She is an exceptional little one. She is the kid that dances in the rain. She sings from morning until night. She rallies all the kids in the neighbourhood for fun and game. She tells strangers at the grocery store that she loves them. If anyone is sad, she'll lay her little hand on them and always say, "you are good to love." She is competitive, tells the most terrible jokes, laughs uncontrollably, but darn it, she is also stubborn and challenging. More than anything though, she loves her people dearly and has a heart of gold. People are drawn to her. I understand why...her love and her joy is contagious.
My heart hurts a little as she starts this new stage. I want to protect her so badly but I know I need to let her go and figure it all out. If you encounter her...know she is special and brave, but oh so soft, so handle with care. She is mine. I love her. And she may be 5 and feeling so grown up, but she'll forever be my baby.
(If you ask her, her favourite singer is Freddie Mercury....so for her I'm linking you one of her favourites. Every Sunday as she marches off to Sunday School with my mother my last words to her are always..."NO singing Queen..." youtu.be/04854XqcfCY)
Sorry, mushy mom love and I always have way too many words! :-)
