My office

The past year was one of the most interesting and productive of my life. I have lived with mental health issues for decades. Over the past few years I started building a freelance writing career, which I had always wanted to do. In March 2020 I started a lucrative contract for a non-profit that lasted 13 months. It boosted confidence in my abilities. Meanwhile, my community of freelance and creative writers adopted Zoom technology early for keeping in touch. I remained active in the Canadian Freelance Guild. I began hosting Zoom writing retreats to encourage my friends and friends-of-friends to set aside time for their craft, supporting people who felt isolated by COVID. I'm sure these activities will carry on long after the end of the pandemic in a career where many people already work from home. I have never felt so well-connected.
This room has been my home office since 2015. It overlooks a woods in an urban park beside the house. Being close to nature is vital for me. I think of this desk as the cockpit from which I navigate to a more self-reliant and stable life than I've had before. It is my happy place. The beauty of it is I can still be a hermit while participating better in my communities.
Thank you to everyone who visits, faves, and comments.
