DesignLab: Print

by V&A DesignLab

DesignLab Print Workshop
03.06.09
Sackler Centre, Art Studio

Students from Pent Valley Technology School worked with International Print Resident Mona Choo to create wallpaper designs using the screen printing technique.

The brief set by Mona for the students was to research, create & screen-print a design for wallpaper inspired by patterns found in the V&A collection.

The session started with an insight into Mona’s career as a print artist which included a visit to her studio to look at various examples of her work and her sketchbooks. This part of the session was also used to introduce the students to different printing techniques.

The next part of the session was used to gather ideas and inspiration in the galleries. Students used the Jameel Gallery of Islamic Art and the Owen Jones display to research their designs.

The group then returned to the Art Studio to work up their designs, draw and cut out their stencils and make their prints.

The session ended with a showcase of the final designs and a group discussion about the different outcomes and the overall experience.
