The monastery was founded in the 2nd half of the 11th century by Vsevolod Yaroslavich (Prince of Kyiv 1077-93) near his country residence - Krasny Dvor. The monastery is first mentioned in the "Tale of Bygone Years" under 1070. Initially, it was called Vsevolozhsky after the founder, later - after the locality - Vydubytsky.
The center of the monastery ensemble is the St. George Cathedral, which plays the role of the main architectural dominant. The main approach to the monastery and the gate bell tower is organized along the northern walls of the fence (late 19th century). Vydubytsky Monastery is one of the best architectural ensembles of Ukraine, which is distinguished by a peculiar combination of buildings from different eras, organic unity of architecture and landscape.
Монастир було засновано у 2-й пол. 11 ст. Всеволодом Ярославичем (князь київський 1077-93) поблизу його заміської резиденції - Красного двору. Вперше обитель згадується в "Повісті временних літ" під 1070. Спочатку звався за ім'ям засновника Всеволожим, згодом - за місцевістю - Видубицьким.
Центром ансамблю монастиря є Георгіївський собор, який відіграє роль основної архітектурної домінанти. Головний підхід до монастиря та надбрамної дзвіниці організовано уздовж північних мурів огорожі (кін. 19 ст.). Видубицький монастир є одним з найкращих архітектурних ансамблів України, який вирізняється своєрідним поєднанням будівель різних епох, органічною єдністю архітектури і ландшафту.
