Hoisting The Mast - HTT!
Still working on the "Poltergeist Gates" on Lagrange Road, Louisville.
Update: 9/6/2017 - These gates now appear to be working correctly. A big THANK YOU to the CSX crews who've spent countless hours (months/years) ensuring these gates now function as originally designed in spite of the trials and tribulations they face in doing so.
I'm sure these workers are aware of the acute hazards, elevated cancer risks (working with creosote, a known carcinogen, etc...), & stress levels associated with working on any railroad. I was surprised to learn their healthcare coverage was so different (and inferior) than, say, the Teamsters. In Shelbyville, KY, teamsters get their own private medical offices to visit with zero wait. I was told they get their own chiropractic care as well as a Nurse Practitioner, with zero wait and zero copays. This would be ideal for many!
Our train here not only carries goods, textiles and containers to/from China (Maersk), it also ships large quantities of Tropicana foods/juices/syrups, corn syrup en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_syrup, drilling fluids and coal. And car/truck chassis, of course. You'll see the occasional convoy of used Military equipment. It's a very busy train system here. No passenger trains on this line.
