UAS Atoms Robotics Team participated to the FLL Qualifier at MVCC
On Saturday, November 15, 2014, the UASCS Robotics Team, UAS Atoms, participated to the First Lego League Qualifier at MVCC. The competitors were supposed to have three presentations to the juries in three categories including Robot Design, Project, and Core Values in the morning session. Our team first visited the Robot Design juries to have their presentation about our robot’s abilities and our programming skills. Secondly, we had a project presentation about the “Classroom of the Future” to the project juries. Finally, in the Core Values category, our robotics team had a team activity test and also expressed their feelings and gaining about studying in robotics.
In the afternoon session, the teams were required to perform a set of missions in a fixed amount of time using their robots in three different rounds. In the first round, our robot worked quite well and was able to handle six missions. The UAS Atoms were in first place among 18 teams at the end of the first round. Unfortunately, since we were under stress to keep our first place, we had some panic during the second and third rounds. Therefore we could not do well in those rounds and lost our first place position. At the end of the robot game rounds, the UAS Atoms were in the fifth place in the scoreboard.
As a result, our team was recognized as one of the qualifiers to the next championship event which is going to be held in SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, December 6, 2014.
