Nomia maneii, f, maryland_PMax UDR 01
Nomia maneii. Rare sand loving bee from Maryland. The Nomia group has lots of taxonomically similar characteristics but, to the eye, the facet that often hits you in the face are pearlescent bands of white to blue to green (just like abalone sometimes) on the abdomen. In the case of N. maneii, blue. Otherwise this particular species can be found in sandy spots and as a general pattern many of this group are in open often desert areas. Photos taken by Orr Uzan-Tidhar (visiting from College of the Atlantic) and Grace Schilling (new technician) who are learning the trade.
