2015 FORSCOM NCO & Soldier of the Year Competition

Representing XVIII Airborne Corps in the 2015 U.S. Army Forces Command NCO and Soldier of the Year competition, Staff Sgt. David Payton of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) completes the assembly of the radio system at the All American Landing Zone on Fort Bragg, NC, August 15, 2015. The All American LZ was the site for Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills and the second order of the day for the NCO and Soldier of the Year competition. The competitors’ mission was to complete a single channel ground airborne radio assembly/check, then lead a team in a dismounted movement formation to react to near ambush. This movement included a combination of the following: moving under direct fire, correcting a malfunction on an M4 rifle or squad automatic weapon, employing an M4 rifle, throwing a hand grenade, selecting a hasty fighting position, searching an individual, reacting to indirect fire and sending a situational report via SINCGARS. Finally, the Soldier made a call for fire and led the team back to the start point. (U.S. Army photo by Spc. L'Erin Wynn, 49th Public Affairs Detachment)
