TRUCKEE, Calif. — A red-tailed hawk leaves a snowy perch at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Martis Creek Lake here Jan. 7, 2011. Corps natural resources management specialists photographed the bird during the National Midwinter Bald Eagle Survey, an annual, nationwide effort coordinated by the Corps to monitor and document bald eagle populations in the contiguous United States.
