PACIFIC OCEAN (Sept. 20, 2012) Operating to ensure security and stability in the vital Asia-Pacific region, two of the U.S. Navy’s 11 global force aircraft carriers conducted readiness operations at the conclusion of exercise Valiant Shield. The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Mobile Bay (CG 53), foreground, and the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) transit the Pacific Ocean with the U.S. Navy's forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). Stennis' transit across the Western Pacific and George Washington's exercise off of Guam allowed the two carriers to conduct dual carrier operations which improve both carrier's interoperability, readiness and the capability to respond quickly in support of security and stability efforts around the globe.
