2009 Holiday Card Photoshoot

Happy holidays to all of our friends and family!

This Christmas card almost never happened. It was really a last minute thing because I had so much stuff to do right before the holidays. We decided to just do it and ended up being my favorite card that we have done yet.

It's crazy how much goes into creating a card like this so I give so much respect to huge commercial shoots like movies, product, and modeling. First I went to JoAnn fabric and bought a 3 yard by 9 yard piece of felt for the backdrop. Last year's card had white lights in the background so this year I wanted to get some big red lights which I found at Target. I originally wanted to do a photo of Pogi wearing some reindeer antlers but I couldn’t find them anywhere so I resorted to the idea of having Pogi in a big gift-wrapped box. I went to Michael’s to get the gift wrap and the bow. I chose a green gift wrap that was simple and understated so it wouldn’t necessarily be the center of attention but not too plain. I chose a big red ribbon to coincide with the large size of the box. Last thing to get was the box which I picked up at Office Depot. It’s actually two 18x18x18 boxes. I cut one of the boxes to make it look like the lid of the box. Abby did a great job making the box look pretty with the wrapping paper and bow.

The most difficult part was getting Pogi to stay still in the box which was open on the top and bottom so we basically slipped the sides over top of him. Luckily Abby was there to coax Pogi with treats and we did get the shot after having him in the box two different times. I could not have done it without her, that’s for sure. I ended up taking the green out of gift wrap in post because there was some yellow irregularties in the pattern which didn’t look right. Plus, I think the red bow on the gray pattern looks good together.
