Southbound UP Manifest Train at Marmaduke, AR

About a little over 24 hours after the town of Marmaduke, Arkansas was devastated by an F3 tornado, UP Train MPRPB 02 sneaks through the damage path on the UP Jonesboro Sub. at restricted speed as debris from a shredded nearby mobile home dealer hang in the downed trees.

This tornado was on the ground for 77 miles, killed 2 people, injured 177, and did $86.5 million in damage due to impacting several towns including Braggadocio and Caruthersville, MO. The photo seen here was on The Weather Channel for about 8 seconds that evening while a story on the storm damage ran.

Not far from here to the right of the frame was the American Railcar Industries Plant, which was heavily damaged by the tornado. Dozens of brand new freight cars, several of them yet to receive paint, were blown over, derailed, and in some cases heavily damaged. The plant was closed for a period of time while repairs and employees worked in the Paragould plant during its closure. ARI even took this opportunity to expand the plant after the tornado during the rebuilding process, and has expanded it again since. ARI is now part of Greenbrier Companies, Inc, the merger taking place in 2019.
