Westbound UP Auto Train at Strasburg, MO
The leader on UP Train AASFX 17 is a recently repainted C44-9W. Unfortunately, prior to 1-9-2018, this engine was known as CNW 8646, and was one of the final pair of Chicago & North Western locomotives on the UP Roster. Fortunately, I was able to shoot the unit on multiple occasions over the past 13 years in several different locations, but it's still a shame they're gone.
To the right is one of the few remaining GRS Type L Signals on the UP System. It appears to have a somewhat certain future since it was retrofitted with LED's a couple years ago, and was the only signal at either end of the siding here on the UP Sedalia Sub. that wasn't replaced with new ones.
Why, I don't know, but I'm thankful this lucky signal survives.
Locomotives: UP 9750, UP 4528, UP 7442
