1800's Playbill - Britannia Bulletin
Campbell's Music Saloon opened on Glasgow's Argyle Street in 1857. It later became the Britannia Music Hall and was one of many such theatres located in the Trongate area of the city. The Britannia changed its name several times during its lifetime, reverting back to one of its former names, the Panopticon, in 1927, by which name it was known until its closure in 1938.
This early music hall was the site of performances by well known names such as Harry Lauder, Charles Coburn, Dan Leno and Marie Loftus. Stan Laurel made his debut there, aged 16, in 1906.
