The other day I was with a woman I look up to. She told me that I should celebrate who I am, and although at first I found humor in the comment, I started to understand what she meant. We must celebrate all those things that have worked to bring us down, for those are the things that have built us up to be strong individuals.
To be honest, I think we all wear our clothes to hide our scars. Those things that have happened in our lives that slowly began to cut us down - those people who willingly became a part of it. But there's something wrong with a world that hides from their past; denial is only the first step on a path one chooses to slowly forget how they became who they are. I believe we should celebrate misfortunes, mistakes, tragedies and those who you find you will never forgive. These are the things that make you wise, brave, strong; they are, as scary as it seems to sometimes admit, the beautiful person you are today.
