Joint team from child- women protection inspect Sue Cantonment site
A joint monitoring and verification team from Juba has confirmed the absence of child soldiers and abducted women at the Sue Cantonment site in Gbudue state.
The team, which comprises of South Sudan People’s Defense Force, the SPLA-IO, the Disarmament and Demobilization and Reintegration commission as well as UN Children’s Agency - UNICEF and the United Nations Mission in South Sudan conducted an inspection and verification mission after reports that opposition forces were involved in forceful recruitment.
The joint team spent four days to conduct series of meetings with SPLA-IO commanders to discuss on whether there are children recruited into the forces or not. The mission also was to verify the allegation from Human right report, which accused SPLA-IO of abducting women in Gbudue state.
