University of Hull
The Seal - University of Hull
The University of Hull's Royal Charter is authenticated not with a signature, but by a seal. Royal seals are made from wax melted into a mould traditionally showing the monarch enthroned and enrobed on one side and on horseback on the other. This seal is single-sided and attached to the charter via the green ribbon shown here. Her Majesty The Queen signed a warrant authorising the preparation and sealing of the charter – hence the phrase at the bottom of the document: ‘By Warrant under the Queen’s Sign Manual’.
