Belen Perugachi, 16, is an indigenous kichwa adolescent from Paquiestancia, a small comunity in the highlands of Ecuador. Her path to become a comunity leader began in 2016 when she joined the Children and Adolescents Group of Pueblo Kayambi. This space is an initiative supported by UNICEF to help young and adolescents to raise their voices to local authorities. Since then, Belen participates in workshops, call caravans, where she visits children in the more remotes communities to teach them about children’s rights. Nowadays she is the first teenager vicepresident of the Rights Protection Council of Cayambe municipality.
