Andrii Vlokh, a Ukrainian refugee in Moldova, browsing on his smartphone
After being held prisoner by Russian forces, Ukrainian Andrii Vlokh fled to Moldova. He planned to continue onward to Norway, but found a community and opportunities that motivated him to stay.
Once he settled in Moldova, Andrii started looking for opportunities for social integration and personal development. He discovered the University of the Third Age, developed especially for people over the age of 60.
Each student of the university was provided with mobile phones and internet subscriptions by the Moldcell Foundation, which they used during the first module on “Digital Skills Development.”
“I already knew quite a bit about digital communication, especially since I had worked as an operator in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System. But here, I learned completely new things — how to use certain apps, how to share files, not just text. Some of my classmates who had only ever used push-button phones were truly amazed,” Andrii said.
