“We are saving thousands of dollars by not having to transport our olives to far-off olive oil presses” – Sanaa Abu Chakra, Head of the Agricultural Cooperative of Amatour.

The village of #Amatour, home to one of the largest olive tree nurseries in Lebanon, is rooted in the olive production industry. However, at the height of harvest season, the Cooperative of Amatour has not been meeting its production expectations, mostly due to the use of outdated equipment and harvesting techniques.

The provision of olive oil production and preservation equipment to the Cooperative of Amatour, which also serves 6 neighboring villages in Mount Lebanon, has boosted olive oil production in the area and has directly benefited 368 farmers and cooperative members.

This project was funded by the UK in Lebanon, within the framework of the Lebanon Host Communities Support Programme #LHSP #MoSA #UNDP
