DarwinTunes: Britain Doesn't Need Talent

by uncoolbob

The first ever real life outing of the DarwinTunes evolutionary music engine (i.e. not on the web - it's always at darwintunes.org) - as part of the Imperial College Festival (www3.imperial.ac.uk/festival).

The basic idea was this:

The population of music loops evolves on the laptop - played through some fancy speakers (thanks Moira!) - our volunteers listened and provided ratings (used for the selection part of the evolutionary algorithm) by holding up cards - like a talent competition - using FOSS ocropus OCR, the webcam can read the cards and feed the data into the algorithm. Et voila!
