Carpet Detail

Templeton Carpet Factory on the edge Glasgow Green (the oldest park in Glasgow) was built in 1892 and designed by at the time top architect, William Leiper. Owners of the site wanted to build a factory, but all the proposals were rejected by the then Victorian city council. Constructed from polychromatic brick - orange, yellow, blue with turrets and arched and circular windows, it was modelled on the Doge's Palace in Venice. What is less well known is that a fault in design led to the collapse of the facade killing 29 workers, and it had to be rebuilt. Although now no longer a factory - carpet or otherwise, it does contain a pleasant Micro-Brewery called the West Brewing Company. Nice beers in fancy glasses.
