The Mosque of the Prophet in the Enlightened City

A view of al-Masjid al-Nabawi (The Mosque of the Prophet) seen from the restaurant of the hotel we were staying at. All around the Mosque are umbrella-type canopies that open up during the day to provide shade from the sun.

We arrived in al-Madina al-Munawwara (The Enlightened City) and it truly felt enlightening. It was a long and tiring bus trip—we arrived at around midnight—but as soon as we saw the beautiful Mosque and complex (especially lit up at night), there was an instant feeling of peace and tranquility.

After getting our rooms and luggage sorted out, we went to pray in the Mosque. It was so calm and quiet at that time of the night and we had no problem praying in the Rawdah (the area between where the Prophet rests and his pulpit). At busier times of the year, it's almost impossible.

We then went over to the resting place of the Prophet, Abu Bakr and Umar, conveyed our Salaah and Salaam, then headed back to the hotel.
