Across Lake Pend Oreille

BNSF's Chicago, IL - South Seattle, WA Z train crosses tranquil Lake Pend Oreille in a scene that has appeared the same for 113 years, but not for long. By the end of the year BNSF plans to begin construction on a second bridge paralleling this side of the original 4,800' span, a major choke point on BNSF's funnel.

This was the first train off of the hi line in 48 hours after a derailment in Eastern Montana. The previous days Z trains were routed via MRL.
