Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque (Gazi Husrev-begova Džamija), Sarajevo
The Gazi Husrev Bey Complex in Sarajevo is one of the main remaining testimonies of the Ottoman presence in the Balkans. The complex, sponsored by the Ottoman governor of Bosnia Gazi Husrev Bey, included a mosque, madrasa (Quranic school), khanqah (soup kitchen), hospice, library, khan, bazaar, public baths and two tombs. The ablution fountain in the courtyard, shown here, was redone centuries later in the Rococo style.
