Façades of Old Sana'a (صنعاء القديمة)
The traditional mud brick buildings in Yemen have thick walls (often a metre and a half at the bottom tapering to half a metre at the top) that help keeping the inside of the building cool. Window openings, usually small and preserved from direct sunlight, are adorned with delicate lattice work which provides shade as well as privacy.
