Waterfall Odyssey 2008
Unlike last year, when I waited until October to schedule Waterfall Odyssey 2007, leaving many people too short on vacation days, I'm planning Waterfall Odyssey 2008 much earlier in the year, albeit in the midst of a horrific drought (really, I haven't cut my grass in 4 weeks - my Cub Cadet misses me soooo much).
Tentatively planned for July 25th - we'll hit falls either in the Oconee County area (meeting at the McDonalds in Walhalla), or in and around Brevard and the Blue Ridge Parkway (meeting at McDonalds in Brevard). It should be noted that I will be *inside* the McDonalds, most likely eating a Sausage Egg and Cheese McGriddle.
Hikes will be mercifully short, easy to moderate in difficulty (gimme a break, I'm 70% of half a century old).
If you're interested, let me know. If you would be interested, except the day is not good for you, I'm generally pretty flexible, so let me know.
If you don't know what a Waterfall Odyssey 2008 is, or a Waterfall Odyssey 2007, etc, here's the info. A long, long time ago, when I enjoyed photography even more than I do, now (mostly because I shot film, and didn't get to do it very often), I decided to take a day off one day, and go somewhere that wasn't work, and wasn't home. So, I made a round trip of the upstate of South Carolina, shot half a dozen rolls of film, and got 8 waterfalls that day. Because I'm generally pretty goofy, I named my trip "Joe's Waterfall Odyssey". The next year, I took two people with me (one of whom now works at Garmin), and we called it Waterfall Odyssey 2005. Or Waterfall Odyssey 2004. I forget, I've been doing this annually for a while.
What makes a "waterfall odyssey" different than taking a day off of work to go shoot waterfalls, you wonder? Nothing! I just stick a dorky name on it, because I can! If you fall off the mountain, I'll commiserate with you (and I might even call emergency services if you need them), but I claim, and will accept, absolutely no responsibility, whatsoever.
Anyway, if you're interested in participating this year, you should like tell me, and stuff, so I can email you, or flickrmail you, or just walk up and ask you about it later.
If you want to go, Join the Waterfall Odyssey 2008 group. Also, if you're not in the area, but would be willing to round up a group of people that you could take on a local Waterfall Odyssey of your own, and piggyback on our group - flickrmail me - it's no fair that WO2008 is geographically constrained to western North Carolina and South Carolina...
