59 201 'Vale of York' on a Cricklewood - Derby return riding test passes Harrowden Junction in a minute patch of sun
This is almost certainly my luckiest photograph in 37 years of photography! After photographing the southbound working in almost unbroken sun at Melton Mowbray in the morning it had completely clagged up in the afternoon for the return and was 100% cloud when Paul and I photographed this just south of Wellingborough. We nipped round to Harrowden in the hope it would get stopped awaiting a path, which it duly did.
The amazing thing though was that as the point went over and the 59 started towards our vantage point a tiny chink appeared in the cloud cover for just 30 seconds or so shining the sun like a searchlight just on the train as it went past, before completely closing back up again! Not only was that the only time that has probably ever happened in 100,000s of trains that have passed me in my lifetime but it was with an incredibly rare one off train - supremely lucky!
