Ingestre, Staffordshire, St Mary

The seventh and final church of our day in Staffordshire. 1676 and almost certainly by Sir Christopher Wren, his only church outside London. Unfortunately any papers about the building of the church were lost in a later fire.

A classical building with superb wood carving inside, thought to be by Grinling Gibbons.

With one window by Burne-Jones and another also by Morris & Co a fine end to our Churchcrawling day.

Early 20th century window by Morris & Co to the designs of Baroness Gleichen. In memoriam Georgina Rose McDonald, died 1907.
