American actor, director, and film producer Denzel Washington (1954) is a two-time Oscar winner and the second African-American actor after Sidney Poitier to be honoured with this film award for a leading role. In 1990, he won the award for his supporting role in Glory and 12 years later, he earned it for his lead role in Training Day. Washington also portrayed such historical figures as Steve Biko, Malcolm X and Rubin ‘The Hurricane’ Carter.
