Mamelis, Vaals, The Netherlands. Upper church (built 1967-68), designed by Dom Hans van der Laan (1904-1991), a Benedict monk, who lived in this convent from 1968 till his death. The abbey church is Van der Laan's master piece. It was based on Van der Laan's own theory of the plastic number, a threedimensional elaboration of the golden ratio.
