Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa, Anthophoridae, Hymenoptera) on White Sage (Salvia apiana, Lamiaceae)
This is a large Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa, Anthophoridae, Hymenoptera) working a flower of native White Sage (Salvia apiana) in the Lamiaceae plant family. Hah - compared to the tiny bees I've been seeing lately, like this one, these are like elephants compared to mice! (San Marcos Pass, 8 June 2015)
