Wild Bee (Anthophila, Hymenoptera) on an anther of White Sage (Salvia apiana, Lamiaceae)
This is a tiny Wild Bee (Anthophila, Hymenoptera) collecting pollen grains from the anther of a flower of native White Sage (Salvia apiana) in the Lamiaceae plant family growing on the native side of our garden. Compare the size of the anthers in relation to a Honey Bee in my [Previous] photo! (San Marcos Pass, 1 June 2015)
I got this photo at 1:1 magnification with my macro lens, so I can use my camera as an expensive remote micrometer. The critter is about 1050 pixels across. That makes it about 4.1 mm across, a bit over 1/8 inch. See this photo for how I figured.
