Wild Bee (Anthophila, Hymenoptera) on Green Everlasting (Gnaphalium californicum, Asteraceae)
Here is a tiny Wild Bee (Anthophila, Hymenoptera) working a new flower of native Green Everlasting (Gnaphalium californicum) in the Asteraceae plant family. This is as open as the flowers ever get. The seed heads look almost the same, without the yellow centers, and have a sweet maple sugar smell. They are irresistible to collect, but the old flower heads always seem to get dusty and full of spider webs. They are better in the woods! (San Marcos Pass, 14 June 2015)
