Wild Bee (Anthophila, Hymenoptera) snuggled into a thistle flower

Here is a handsome little Wild Bee (Anthophila, Hymenoptera) snuggled into a new flower of the violet form of native Cobwebby Thistle (Cirsium occidentale var. californicum) in the Asteraceae plant family. The flower is like a big feather bed! (San Marcos Pass, 26 May 2015)

Today started sunny, but the marine layer fog soon spilled over the mountains. The fog burned off before noon, but then another middle layer of clouds moved in to make it just as gloomy as the morning was. That's when I got this photo, as the bee was grounded by the cooler weather. The clouds also brought some wind.
