Burned out stems of native Bigberry Manzanita (Arctostaphylos glauca, Ericaceae)

These are burned out stems of native Bigberry Manzanita (Arctostaphylos glauca) in the Ericaceae plant family against a background of Monterey Shale, after the White Fire last May. It almost looks like a cubist painting of the gnarled stem on the left falling over to the right. These manzanitas don't stump-sprout, and there's no sign of new growth except for a bit of green seedlings in the lower-right. Wildfire and drought is a tough combination.
