Uppsala, Sweden - Uppsala Cathedral - "Uppsala Domkyrka"

Uppsala Cathedral or "Uppsala Domkyrka" is the largest cathedral in all of Scandinavia.

Building on this cathedral began in 1287. It was intended to upstage the "Nidaros Cathedral" in Norway and took over 100 years to complete. Uppsala Cathedral was dedicated to the saints Laurentius/Lawrence (Sweden's first Lutheran Archibishop after conversion), Erik (patron saint of Sweden, also appears on the city of Stockholm coat of arms. He is buried inside this cathedral), and Olaf (patron saint of Norway). Norway became independent from Sweden in1905.
